Unique
Patients of St. Mary's Hospital, nestled on the Republic of Ireland's border with Northern Ireland in County Monaghan, are raising their glasses to hospital administrators — and they don't even have to go outside. The unique nursing home is helping its 140 boarder’s age happily by providing them with their very own pub. Rose Mooney, assistant director of nursing, told Reuters’: "The whole social aspect of life does extend the years — it means the patients aren't bored to death." The pub is open for business from 11 am to 9 pm and it charges the same price per pint as in a typical Irish watering hole so hanging out with granny and her pals should be an uncommonly jovial affair.
Lorgan Ward (Alzheimer’s Unit)
The Lorgan ward holds particular memories for us and that is why it is the chosen charity for our first Irish Bog Snorkeling Championships. The care and attention given to each patient is second to none, the staff are exceptional and so in today’s climate of cut backs we would like to support this area of the hospital.
